Value-focused Bathroom Renovations
Practical, durable bathrooms designed for everyday life
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Cost & Value
How much does a family bathroom renovation usually cost?
Every bathroom is different, but family bathrooms are designed to give long-term value rather than unnecessary extras. We focus on durable materials, sensible layouts, and quality installation so your bathroom performs well for many years. We do offer obligation free assessments and can provide some estimates during an assessment.
Can you help us stay within budget?
Yes. We’ll guide you on where it makes sense to spend and where you can save without compromising safety or durability.
Is it cheaper to keep the existing layout?
In most cases, yes. Keeping plumbing in the same locations can reduce costs. We’ll always advise if changes are worth the extra expense. We generally prefer to change the piping depending on the existing installation as we cannot place guarantees on pipes we didn’t supply/fit.
Can we supply our own tiles or fittings?
Yes. If you already have new items or want to source your own, we’re happy to check that they’re suitable and compatible.
Can we redo only a part of the bathroom?
From a guarantee point of view we unfortunately cannot guarantee waterproofing or any longevity if we need to join on to existing tiles or remove some features. In some instances, only a bath change for example could be feasible and we will advise if so. From our experience generally once we’ve done an assessment with our client and highlighted all the technical risks and reasons why we would advise a complete renovation, we have a 97% agree rate from our clients realizing the risks and potential further costs involved. It is however a case-to-case decision.
2. Timeline & Living in the Home
How long will the renovation take?
A typical family bathroom renovation can be done in one week, depending on the work involved. If this is the only bathroom in the house, we will discuss a possible shorter timeline and effective ways to minimize the disruption and always try to keep a working toilet if alternative accommodation is not feasible.
Will we be without a bathroom?
Yes, the bathroom will usually be out of use during works. We plan the job carefully and keep you informed so disruption is kept to a minimum.
Will there be much mess or noise?
Bathroom renovations are disruptive, but we take care to protect your home in the areas we move, keep the site tidy, and limit noise where possible.
How do we address changes after we agreed on a layout?
Once the project start date has been agreed, we will have a clear scope of the layout and the work to be completed. As the project progresses, we recognize that there are sometimes changes or unforeseen circumstances once walls have been opened.
If these changes are requested by our client, we will process such changes in writing and adjust pricing accordingly. Any changes over €300 will be actioned upon increase in deposit.
If these changes are due to unforeseen constituents inside the wall, we will consult with our client and agree on the best course to follow should further costs be incurred. We are well experienced in our trade and will always advise our clients on expected unknowns before we start a project, although there are circumstances in which we also cannot anticipate all factors.
3. Family-Friendly Design
What layout works best for families?
We design bathrooms to be practical, easy to clean, and suitable for everyday use — whether that means a bath for young children, a spacious shower for busy mornings or a mobility accessible washroom.
Can you improve storage?
Yes. Clever storage solutions make a big difference in family bathrooms and don’t have to be expensive. We are often requested to improve the shelving or hanging space in the hot-press as well.
Can the bathroom be made safer?
Absolutely. We can advise on slip-resistant flooring, safer or no shower trays at all, and layouts that work for children and older family members. We always challenge our clients to think ahead and future-proof the bathroom (without installing all the systems now) if there is a possibility that a family member might have some mobility needs at a later stage.
4. Materials & Durability
What tiles are best for family bathrooms?
Porcelain tiles are a popular choice as they are durable, water-resistant, and easy to maintain. We help you choose finishes that won’t date quickly. We also have reasonably priced tile suppliers.
Are wall panels an option?
Yes. Quality wall panels can be a practical alternative to tiles in certain areas and are often easier to keep clean although the end cost does compare very similar. Tiles do provide a much higher-end finish and are more durable.
Will the bathroom be easy to maintain?
Yes. We prioritize finishes and layouts that make cleaning simple and reduce long-term maintenance.
5. Plumbing, Electrical & Compliance
Will the existing plumbing need to be changed?
Not always. If existing pipework is in good condition, it can often be reused but we tend to change all waterpipes in order to honor our guarantees as we cannot guarantee pipes we haven’t supplied/fitted.
Will the electrical work meet Irish standards?
Yes. All electrical work complies with Irish regulations and Safe Electric requirements. Certification is provided where applicable.
What lighting can be used in bathrooms?
We install bathroom lighting that meets required IP ratings for safety in wet areas and can only install client supplied lighting/LED mirrors if it is appropriately rated.
6. Waterproofing & Long-Term Performance
Do you waterproof the bathroom properly?
Yes. All wet areas are professionally waterproofed using proper tanking systems. This is essential for preventing leaks and future damage and form part of our guarantee.
How long should a family bathroom last?
With correct installation and sensible material choices, a family bathroom should last well over 15 years.
7. Ventilation & Comfort
Do we need a new extractor fan?
Good ventilation is important to prevent condensation and mould. We assess your existing fan and upgrade it if necessary. The common bathroom extractor fan installations we find are not up to ventilation standards for our environment in which cases we suggest and discuss the options to install the new insulated extractor fan according to the standards.
Is underfloor heating worth it?
Underfloor heating can be added if desired, but it’s optional. We’ll help you decide if it’s a good fit for your home and budget. Underfloor heating is also dependent on your electrical access to the bathroom or type and size of heat pump.
8. Insurance, Guarantees & Peace of Mind
Are you insured?
Yes, EireMaintenance.ie is insured. We carry appropriate insurance and operate to professional standards.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. Workmanship is guaranteed; quality of workmanship is also assessed throughout the project and products come with manufacturer warranties.
What if there’s an issue after the job is finished?
We’re available to address any genuine issues and stand over our workmanship.
9. Choosing the Right Contractor
Why choose you instead of the cheapest quote?
We focus on doing a professional job and maintaining a clean site— using correct waterproofing, safe electrics, and durable materials. This avoids problems and extra costs later.
Can we see examples of previous work?
Yes. We’re happy to show examples of completed family bathroom renovations and client feedback.
What are your payment options?
We offer an obligation free assessment and quotation. In order to confirm a project date, we request a 50% deposit and final settlement within 2 days of completion.
